Before going any further we have to understand the meaning of the word INTERPRETATION and INTERPOLATION, with specific reference to their use in religion.
We all know that most of the events in Ramayan are based on INTERPRETATION and INTERPOLATION, and this post will try to explain this.
Here are some examples:
1. Hanuman took a long supernatural jump to reach Lanka.
2. Parashuram killed the entire Shatriyas on this earth 21 times.
3. Gautam Rishi cursed her wife Ahaliya, into stone.
4. Hanuman ji transported the entire mountain, carrying it in hand and flying without the aid of machine, from Himalayas to Lanka.
5. Manthara’s mind was manipulated by Goddess Swarsati. One can go on and on.
Before we move any further everyone has to understand that these posts are based on accepted religious belief that incarnation does not allow for any SUPERNATURAL or MIRACULOUS powers. Taking this into account and accepting that there can be no deviation on this, let us first understand the meaning of INTERPRETATION and INTERPOLATION, by an example so that the difference is understood properly:
EX: Gautam Rishi became extremely angry and furious for the alleged indecent behavior of Ahaliya, and next thing we know is she is no longer alive. This much is a fact to which ALL parties agree.
Now INTERPRETATION could be:
1. She died quite suddenly
2. She was killed
3. She committed suicide.
As such INTERPRETATION in religion means PRESENTING the event or a fact taking into account the need of the society or as per the convenience of powers in charge.
INTERPOLATION could be:
1. She vanished.
2. She was converted into stone.
3. She was sealed in stone, and yet was not dead.
As such INTERPOLATION in religion means MANIPULATING or FALSIFYING the event or a fact taking into account the need of the society or as per the convenience of powers in charge.
Do we need MANIPULATING or FALSIFYING the event even after independence and in this information age? NO CERTAINLY NOT. In fact this information age demands that CORRECT INTERPRETATION of events should be made.
The correct interpretation of above example would be that Gautam Rishi killed her wife. This also means that religion at that period of time was exploiting females. Similar is the case when Parashuram’s father ordered his sons to kill their mother. Ram avatar ended the exploitation of females by abolishing Agni Pariksha.
Similarly Parashuram may have been engaged in battle 21 times and his forces were fighting to kill the opponents rather than to defeat them.
Regarding Hanuman’s long jump, event has been explained in Post:
Other supernatural INTERPRETATION and INTERPOLATION would be taken up later.
